What is the date of Berhampur university PHD entrance exam 2012? From where can I get the old question papers of this exam? Can I download the admit card for this exam from official website of the university whenever it will publish admit card on its website?

Dear user the exam for PhD which is URET has been conducted by the university on 18 March 2011. The exam date for PhD for 2011 has not been published by the university yet. But we when we get the date we will inform you. But as you asked for the admit card I am uploading it here along with the application form. This will surely help you:

Eligibility for PhD: For PhD you should have a Masterís Degree in the relevant discipline with at least 55% of marks or an equivalent grade (50% of marks or equivalent grade and for professionals with 15 years of experience there should be at least 48% of marks at Masterís Degree level.

University Research Eligibility Test (URET):
The Test shall comprise of one paper of 100 marks of three hours duration.
The questions shall cover all the papers taught in the P.G./M. Phil. (where there is no P.G.) course of the concerned subject of Berhampur University or its affiliated institutions. The question paper shall comprise of 50percentobjective type and50 per cent short answer type questions. The minimum pass mark shall be 50 percent of maximum marks.

Mode of application:
All eligible candidates desirous to apply for Ph. D. under Berhampur
University shall apply in the prescribed format (two sets) downloaded from the university website bamu.nic.in along with a Bank Draft for Rs.700/-(Rupees seven hundred) only drawn in favour of Comptroller of Finance,Berhampur University payable at State Bank of India (Code 2107), Bhanja Bihar,
Berhampur Ė 760 007, Odisha.

The latest notification for PHD is as follows:

In pursuance of the New Regulations for Doctor of Philosophy in Arts, Science, Commerce, Management, Law, Medicine, Ayurveda, Pharmacy and Homeopathy, etc. and in continuation of this Office Notification No. 06/PGC/ BU/2011 dated 11.2.2011 it is notified for information of all concerned that the candidates who have taken admission into M.Phil. course through entrance test in 2009 and 2010 and have acquired M.Phil. degrees from Berhampur University and those who have been selected under INSPIRE, Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship and MANF by the UGC and other Fellowships offered by the Departments of CSIR, DST and such other national bodies and have not applied in the prescribed form are required to submit their application in the prescribed form with a fee of Rs. 700/- (Rupees seven hundred only) drawn in favour of Comptroller of Finance, Berhampur University payable at SBI, Bhanja Bihar Branch (Code: 2107) on or before 19.12.2011 for being called for the viva-voce test for the purpose of Ph.D. Registration. Further, those who have been allowed provisional registration for Ph.D. on the basis of their fellowship are also required to apply in the prescribed form as mentioned above along with the prescribed fee of Rs. 700/- (Rupees seven hundred only) drawn in favour of Comptroller of Finance, Berhampur University payable at SBI, Bhanja Bihar Branch (Code: 2107) on or before 19.12.2011 for being called for the viva-voce test for the purpose of Ph.D. Registration.

Berhampur University was established in the year 1967, it is a NAAC- B accredited university in Brahmapur, Odisha, India.

Berhampur university Phd entrance exam is University Research Eligibility Test (URET), following are the details of this test:

Eligibility:

Question paper shall cover all the papers taught in the P.G./M. Phil. course of the concerned Subject of the University. The question paper shall comprise of 50 per cent objective type
questions and 50 per cent short answer type questions.

Bhanja Bihar, Berhampur-760007, Orissa
Regulations for Doctor of Philosophy in Arts, Science, Commerce,
Management, Education, Law, Medicine, Ayurveda, Pharmacy & Homeopathy.
1) ELIGIBILITY:
1.1 A Masterís Degree in the relevant discipline with at least 55% of marks or an equivalent grade
and 50% of marks or an equivalent grade for SC & ST and Physically challenged candidates of
Berhampur University (hereinafter referred to as the ĎUniversityí or any other
University/Institution recognized by the University/UGC. Subjects in which marks are not
awarded (such as M.D, M.S, etc) passing the examination shall be considered to be the qualifying
mark. In case of an interdisciplinary or allied subject, a strict adherence to the Masterís degree in
the relevant subject may not be insisted upon, if a candidate has offered at least one full paper at
the Bachelor degree/Master degree examination in any one of the interdisciplinary/ allied subjects
or the candidate has published at least one research paper in national or international journals of
repute as shall be determined by the concerned Departmental Research Degree Committee
(DRDC). The registration will be allowed in the subject in which the course will be carried out.
Provided that college teachers and professionals with 15 years of experience can be
allowed to register for Ph. D. with at least 48% of marks at Masterís level provided that that they
qualify the URET. Professionals include Scientist /Executives /Librarians / Computer
Programmers / Demonstrators / Media Persons and such others equivalent as decided by the
concerned DRDC, besides the already recognized professionals from the fields of Medicine and
Law.
Provided further that, the candidate should have obtained the Master Degree or above from
this University or the Guide should be from within the territorial jurisdiction of Berhampur
University.
Note-1: In case of a foreign national, who wishes to register himself/herself for Ph. D. under this
University, the candidate should have prior security clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs
and approval of the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.
1.2 Every candidate, who qualifies the eligibility criteria as per regulation 1.1, shall make an
application for appearing at the UNIVERSITY RESEARCH ELIGIBILITY TEST (URET) in the
application form as framed by the Chairman, P.G. Council in the advertisement for URET 2011.
2) UNIVERSITY RESEARCH ELIGIBILITY TEST (URET)
2.1 Applications are to be called for by the university once in year, preferably in the subjects for
which regular Post Graduate and/ or M. Phil Teaching Programme is available in the University,
preferably in the month of October. The applications are to be submitted to the Chairman, P.G.
Council. The applications are to be scrutinized by a Screening Committee to be constituted by the
Vice-Chancellor for determining the candidates who are to be exempted from the URET and the
candidates who are to appear the URET. The list of candidates who are to appear at the URET is
to be sent to the Chairman, P.G. Council for the conduct of the Test. The University Research
Eligibility Test is to be conducted once in a year, preferably in the month of November in the
manner prescribed below.
2.2 The Test shall comprise of one paper consisting of 100 marks of two hours duration. The
question paper shall cover all the papers taught in the P.G./M. Phil. course of the concerned
subject of the University. The question paper shall comprise of 50 per cent objective type
questions and 50 per cent short answer type questions. The minimum pass marks shall be 50 per
cent of maximum marks.
2.3 The candidates who qualify the URET have to appear an interview to be conducted by the
Staff Council of the concerned Department in presence of an observer nominated by the
Chairman, P. G. Council for final selection. At the time of the interview, doctoral candidates shall
have to discuss their research interest/area. The final list of candidates selected would be sent to
the Chairman, P.G. Council for onward transmission of the same to the University authority.
2.4 The number of seats available for admission to the Ph. D. programme in different subjects
should be decided well in advance taking into consideration the available positions in the P.G.
Departments of the University/ Centres and Institutes recognized for the purpose of conducting
research.
3) EXEMPTION FROM URET:
The candidates of the following categories shall be exempted from the URET:
a) Candidates qualifying NET conducted by UGC/CSIR for research fellowship or for lectureship,
similar Tests conducted by other national bodies like IACR, ICHR ICSSR etc. and the State Level
Eligibility Test (SLET), the candidates who have been selected for award of fellowship by the
Department of Science & Technology (DST), and those qualifying GATE with at least 60
percentile.
b) Candidates who have been admitted into an M. Phil course through an entrance Test and hold
the M. Phil. Degree and the Teacher Fellowship holders.
Note: Candidates belonging to the above two categories, however, shall have to apply in the
prescribed form as given at Appendix Ė 1 along with other candidates as per the provision 2.1
supra. They are also required to face the interview as mentioned under the provision 2.3 supra.
4) COURSE WORK
4.1 After having admitted each candidate enrolled for Ph. D. shall be required to undertake course
work on a regular basis for a minimum period of one semester in the P. G. Departments of this
University or in any other University / centers/ institutions identified for the purpose. The course
work shall be treated as pre Ph. D. preparation. The course work shall comprise of two papers of
100 marks each. One paper shall be on research methodology which may include quantitative
techniques and computer applications. The other paper shall be in general on the broad areas of the
concerned subject. (The course content of the papers shall be as prescribed for the M. Phil. course
in the subjects in which M. Phil. programme is available in the University). The examination for
the course work shall be held normally in the month of June. In order to clear the course work a
candidate has to secure a minimum of 50 (fifty) per cent in each of the two papers.
4.2 M. Phil. degree holder who have been admitted to the course through an entrance test and have
covered the course as mentioned above as part of their M. Phil. syllabus shall be exempted from
undertaking the course work.
4.3 The In-service candidates, who have enrolled for Ph. D. shall be required to undertake course
work and their attendance for the course work may not be insisted upon.
5) SUPERVISION:
5.1. Every candidate for the Ph. D. degree shall ordinarily be required to work under the
supervision of a guide who shall be:
i) A Professor/Reader of the University; or
ii) A Lecturer of the University or any other University within the state of Orissa having a
Doctorate Degree with at least five years of P.G. teaching experience; or
iii) A Professor/Reader or equivalent rank of any other University.
iv) A Scientist of Research Institute of repute not below the rank of C-Grade; or
v) A teacher with Ph. D. degree of an affiliated college with a minimum of 5 years of P.G.
teaching experience or 10 years of teaching at degree level with 3 (three) research
publications in referred journals of National Repute to be determined by the DRDC.
vi) A distinguished scholar having significant contribution to knowledge in the concerned
field or subject as recognized as such by the Syndicate.
vii) A retired Professor, Reader and Lecturer or persons of equivalent cadre retired from
this University or any other University / Institute subject to the approval of the syndicate.
5.2. The Syndicate on the recommendation of the Research Committee may permit a teacher with
at least ten years of teaching experience at the degree stage or higher to work independently for
the Ph. D. Degree provided he has published at least two research papers in the reputed journal
prior to the date of registration. In order to be eligible under the Regulation, he/she shall have to
qualify at the URET examination.
5.3 A guide shall not be permitted to supervise/guide more candidates for Ph. D. Degree at a
time in the University than the number specified below.
a) Professor and Scholars of equivalent rank: 08 (Eight)
b) Reader and Scholars of equivalent rank: 08 (Eight)
c) Lecturers and Scholars of equivalent rank: 08 (Eight)
d) Retired teachers: 08 (Eight)
Provided further that in no case the guide shall be permitted to supervise/guide more than
the number of candidates specified above for Ph. D. excluding D. Sc./D. Litt./LL. D.
Programmes. For determining the number of candidates under a supervisor/guide, the candidate
be listed only under the Principal/Main guide/Supervisor in case of joint registration.
5.4 The allocation of the supervisor for the selected candidates shall be decided by the
concerned department basing upon the number of candidates per each faculty member, the
available specialization among the faculty and the research interest of the candidates. Once the
candidates are allotted among the faculty of University P. G. Departments on the basis of merit,
the rest of the candidates shall be allotted under the supervisors working in different centers of
research recognized for the purpose.
5.5 On the recommendation of the DRDC, the Syndicate may permit a candidate for Ph. D.
Degree to work under the joint supervision of not more than two guides (a) belonging to two
different Institutions or (b) belonging to different disciplines in case of interdisciplinary research.
(c) In the same subject. The candidate shall be allowed to register for Ph. D. programme in the
subject in which he/she undertakes the course work as applied by the candidate and allowed by the
concerned Research Committee.
5.6 Once a candidate submits his/her Ph. D. Thesis, the name of the candidate shall be deleted
from the number of candidate registered under a concerned guide.
6) REGISTRATION:
6.1 Every candidate soon after successful completion of the course work shall apply in the
prescribed form (Appendix-II) along with the prescribed fee and a detailed synopsis containing
the aims, objectives, scope and methodology of the proposed thesis. However, candidates
exempted from the course work under Regulation 4.2 supra, can submit their application for
Registration directly for consideration by the DRDC.
Provided that, the registration shall be effective from the date of receipt of application
completed in all respect in the University.
6.2 The DRDC shall evaluate the synopsis and recommend for its registration along with its
comments in the form given in Appendix-III
6.3 In case the committee recommends for modification, the candidate shall be asked to by the
Registrar to modify the proposal in the line suggested by the committee and resubmit the same to
the University within two months from the date of such communication. On receipt of the
modified proposal, the Registrar shall place the revised proposal before the Committee. After it is
approved by the Committee, the candidate be registered.
In case the committee rejects the proposal, the candidate shall be free to apply afresh with a new
proposal.
6.4 The candidate shall have to submit application as specified at 6.1 within one year from the
date of communication to the candidate from the University for final registration, failing which he
has to appear URET afresh.
7) DEPARTMENT RESEARCH DEGREE COMMITTEE (DRDC):
7.1 The DRDC shall consists of the Vice-Chancellor, the Chairman P. G. Council, the Head of
the concerned Department, and three senior most teacher of the concerned Department of the
University. In case of subjects where there is no teaching facility in the University, the Vice-
Chancellor may nominate two senior teachers of the concerned subject/field for the purpose.
7.2 The Vice-Chancellor will preside over the meeting of the DRDC. The quorum for the
meeting shall be three members. The meeting of the DRDCs shall be convened by the Registrar /
Officer-in-Charge of the concerned branch
7.3 The Research Committee shall ordinarily meet twice a year preferably in the month of
January and July or more often according to requirement.
7.4 The T.A. and D.A. and Conveyance Allowance of members for attending the meeting shall
be paid as per University Rules.
8) RESEARCH STUDY AND WORK:
8.1 After registration for Ph. D. Degree, a candidate shall ordinarily be required to study and
pursue his/her research work for not less than two years.
Provided that, the Vice-Chancellor, on the recommendation of the guide may permit a
candidate who has been pursuing research study without registration as evidenced from his
publications in referred journals and subject to other conditions stipulated in these regulations, to
submit the thesis not earlier than one year and six months from the date of registration.
8.2 In case materials and equipments required for the research work are not available in the
University, a candidate may be allowed to work outside the University on the basis of the
recommendations of the supervisor and approval of the Vice-chancellor provided he/she has
worked at least for one year within the University subject to the condition that the total period of
work shall not be less than two years.
8.3 If a candidate has passed his Masterís Degree or M. Phil., from this University and has
been working in a National Institute/University/Institution of repute outside the territorial
jurisdiction of the University, the provisions of 8.2 shall not be insisted upon.
8.4 Place of Research Work.
a) P.G. Departments, Berhampur University.
b) Centre of Study of Berhampur University.
c) Any other National Research Institute.
d) P.G. Departments of other Universities.
e) P.G. Departments of Khallikote (Autonomous) College, Berhampur
f) M.K.C.G Medical College, B.P.H.C (Homeopathy College), K.A.T.S (Ayurvedic College)
g) P.G. Departments of affiliated/autonomous colleges
h) The candidate pursuing Ph. D. under subjects like Telugu, Hindi, Sanskrit, Public
Administration, Sociology, Psychology, Philosophy, and any other subject offered in
humanities and social sciences in which regular P.G. teaching is not available under the
University, for such candidates the place of research shall be decided by the DRDC with
the approval of the Vice-Chancellor.

p) Tribal & Harijan Research cum Training Institute, Bhubaneswar.
q) OSSPARC, Gopalpur on Sea.
9) CHANGE OF SUBJECT AND TITLE:
9.1 After registration for Ph. D Degree in a particular subject as specified in Regulation 6.1, a
candidate shall not be permitted to change the subject. If a candidate desires to change the subject
he/she shall apply for fresh registration after fulfilling the Regulations as at 2 & 3 Supra.
9.2 If a candidate desires to change the area of his research work within the scope of the same
subject which requires a major change in the title of research work, he /she shall apply for such
change of title with a fresh synopsis duly certified by the guide(s) along with the prescribed fee.
The Vice-Chancellor may permit the change of title after the fresh synopsis is presented before the
Department Staff Council and the same is approved by the DRDC..
Provided that, if the Vice-Chancellor is satisfied that the nature of change in the title is of
minor nature without affecting the broad area of the work, he may permit such change of title
without referring it to the Department Staff Council /DRDC.
10) DURATION AND LAPSE OF REGISTRATION:
The registration of a candidate for Ph. D. Degree shall be valid for a period of five years
only. The registration of a candidate may be cancelled at any time on receipt of a report from the
Guide(s) that the candidate has not taken any interest on the research work or has not made any
progress of research.
11) SUBMISSION OF THESIS:
11.1 At any time after the lapse of the period of research work mentioned in regulation 8 above, a
candidate has to submit the draft thesis at least before the submission of the final thesis.
11.2 Every Ph. D. candidate shall publish one research paper in a referred Journal before the final
submission of the thesis for adjudication, and produce evidence for the same in the form of
acceptance letter or the reprint
11.3 Prior to the submission of the final thesis, the candidate shall make a pre Ė Ph. D.
presentation in the Department that may be open to all the faculty members and research students,
for getting feedback and comments which may be suitably incorporated into the final thesis under
the advice of the supervisor.
.11.4. A candidate has to submit four copies of the thesis and six copies of the synopsis in printed
or typed form to the University along with the prescribed fee. In addition they are also required to
submit two soft copies of the thesis.
11.5 The thesis shall be accompanied by the following documents:
i) A certificate by the candidate countersigned by the supervisor, stating that the work is an
original piece of research undertaken by him/her and the work has not been submitted earlier in
the university for any other degree/diploma. In case of independent research, the candidate shall
have to submit a declaration to the effect that the work is an original piece of research undertaken
by the candidate and the work has not been submitted earlier for any other degree/diploma.
ii) A certificate by the supervisor countersigned by Head of the Department to the effect that
he/she has a good conduct and is worthy for the award of Ph.D.
11.6 The thesis shall:
i) Cover the subject stated in the candidateís application;
ii) Embody results of research; and
iii) Show evidence of the candidateís own work either based on the discovery of new facts
which the candidate has himself/herself observed, or by new relation of facts observed by others,
whether constituting an exhaustive study and criticism of the published works of other, or edited
texts of Calendars of unpublished manuscripts, records or documents accompanied by adequate
introduction and critical appreciation or otherwise forming a valuable contribution to the literature
of the subject dealt with or tending generally to the advancement of knowledge.
11.7 The candidate shall indicate in his/her thesis:
i) the sources from which his/her information has been taken; and
ii) the extent of which he/she has availed the work of others.
12) BOARD OF EXAMINERS:
12.1 The thesis submitted by the candidate for Ph. D. Degree shall be referred to a Board of
Examiners consisting of three examiners, of which one would be the Research Supervisor and the
other two shall be external examiners from outside the Universities of Orissa. Provided that in
case of thesis under Indian Languages, the choice of outside the state examiners may not be
insisted upon.
12.2 The examiners shall be appointed by the Vice-Chancellor from a list of six examiners
submitted by the guide(s) and recommended by the Chairman, Board of Studies in the concerned
subject. If there is guide, he shall be the Chairman of the Board of Examiners, if not otherwise
disqualified. Where the candidate works under the joint supervision of more than one guide, one
of the guides nominated by the Vice-Chancellor shall be appointed as examiner and the Chairman
of the Board of Examiners.
Provided that, if the Chairman of the Board of Studies of the current session has not been
elected, the Chairman of the Board of Studies of the immediately past academic year shall be
deemed to be the Chairman of the Board of Studies for the purpose.
Provided further that, if the Vice-Chancellor is not satisfied with the list of examiners
submitted by the guide and recommended by Chairman, Board of Studies, he may ask for fresh list
of examiners,
12.3 In case the scholar is related to the guide(s) or the Chairman Board of Studies, the Vice-
Chancellor may appoint examiners in consultation with senior most faculty of the subject/Head of
the Department.
12.4 The recommendation by the Board of Examinees should be unanimous. In case one of the
Examiners does not recommend, the thesis shall be referred to a fourth examiner, whose
recommendation shall be final and decisive.
12.5 If any of the examiners instead of rejecting the thesis or not accepting it suggests certain
improvements to be incorporated therein, it shall be returned to the candidate with the comments
of the examiner for revision and resubmission within two months from the date of receipt of the
report of the examiner. The revised thesis shall be accepted for evaluation only if it is submitted
after a period of three months and before expiry of a period of one year from the date of the thesis
was sent back to the candidate for such revision. The revised thesis shall be sent to the same
examiner for evaluation. If after such revision the thesis is not approved by the said examiner, it
shall be returned to another examiner whose recommendation shall be final and decisive.
12.6 If the thesis is approved unanimously by all examiners, the candidate shall appear for the
viva-voce examination with reference to his/her thesis and the special subject which he/she has
offered which shall be openly defended.
12.7 A copy of the synopsis of the thesis submitted by the candidate is to be sent along with the
appointment letter while seeking consent from the examiners.
12.7.1 Each examiner shall communicate separately to the controller of Examinations his/her
report on the thesis submitted by the candidate in prescribed form (Appendix-IV) within eight
weeks of receipt of the thesis.
12.7.2 The report of the examiners shall specify the ground on which the recommendation for
award of Ph. D. is based. The ground shall include the innovation/research/contribution made by
the candidate which makes him/her eligible for the award of Ph. D. Degree.
12.8 VIVA-VOCE EXAMINATION:
12.8.1 If the thesis of the candidate is approved by the Board of examiners, the candidate shall
appear before the Board of examiners to be tested orally with reference to the thesis in an open
viva-voce. For this purpose consent may be obtained from any one of the external examiners by
the Chairman, Board of examiners/Research Supervisor fixing the date and venue of the viva-voce
test and intimate the same to the University. The date and venue of the via-voce test shall be
communicated to all concerned by the University.
The via-voce examination shall be conducted by the supervisor and the at least one of the external
examiners and the same shall also open to the faculty members and research students of the
department. The supervisor shall be the Chairman of the Board. If the Supervisor is not available
for any reason or not in a position to conduct the examination or in case of independent research,
the Vice-Chancellor may appoint one of the examiners as Chairman.
12.8.2 The examiners of the Viva-voce shall be provided with the recommendation of the Board
of Examiners before the Viva-voce examination. If the examiners while examining the thesis
have raised any question, those should also be asked to the candidate to defend them during the
Viva-voce.
12.8.3 If the recommendation of the examiners in the Viva-voce is unanimous and the Syndicate
after considering the report of the Board is satisfied that the candidate is worthy of the degree of
Ph. D., it shall approve the award of degree.
12.8.4 If the thesis is approved, but the performance of the candidate at the viva-voce examination
is not satisfactory, the candidate may be asked to appear the viva-voce examination after a period
of two months.
12.8.5 The Chairman of the Board of Examiners shall report to the controller of Examinations the
result of the viva-voce examination in the prescribed form (Appendix-V).
13) AWARD OF Ph. D:
A diploma in the prescribed form (Appendix-VII) under the seal of the University and
signed by the Vice-Chancellor shall be delivered to each successful candidate.
Along with the Degree, the candidate shall be issued with a Provisional Certificate
certifying to the effect that the Degree has been awarded in accordance with the provisions to the
UGC Regulations (Minimum standards and Procedure for Award of M. Phil/Ph. D. Degree)
regulations, 2009
14) DEPOSITORY WITH UGC
Following the successful completion of the evaluation process and announcement of the
award of Ph. D degree, the University shall submit a soft copy of the Ph. D. thesis to the UGC
within a period of thirty days, for hosting the same in INFLIBNET, accessible to all
Institutions/Universities.
15. FEE TO BE PAID:
A candidate for the Ph. D. shall be required to pay the fee under the following heads from
time to time as prescribed by the Syndicate on self financing basis.
1. Fee for URET Rs. 700/-
2. Fee for cost of Application form for Registration Rs. 400/-
3. Registration Fee. Rs. 4000/-
4. Fee for submission of thesis. Rs. 6000/-
5. Fee for change of title. Rs. 2000/-
6. Fee for enrolment in the Course Work Rs. 5000/-

16. This Regulation shall come into force from the date it is notified after duly approved by the Regulation
Committee and the Academic Council of the University
